13-year-old arrested, found asking "how to kill my friend" on ChatGPT

A 13-year-old in Florida was recently arrested after asking a dangerous question on ChatGPT: “How can I kill my classmate?” The incident occurred during class and would have gone unnoticed if not for an artificial intelligence system called “Gaggle,” which monitors students’ digital activity in more than 1,500 schools in the US.

Once the algorithm intercepted the keywords, an automatic alarm was raised that immediately notified the school security staff and then the police. The security officer confronted the student, who justified that everything was just a joke with his friend.

Despite this, authorities did not take it lightly. The 13-year-old was arrested on the spot and images of him in handcuffs have gone viral on social media, sparking strong reactions among parents, teachers and online users.

Meanwhile, the sheriff's office issued a warning statement: "Another case where a 'joke' turned into an emergency. Parents, talk to your children about the consequences of the words they say, even online."

The event has opened a divided debate: was this a justified reaction to prevent tragedies, or an excessive punishment for a teenager who does not yet understand the gravity of his actions?
