Ukraine hit with over 900 bombs in one week

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appealed to foreign allies for more help to bolster air defenses, after a week that the country has faced over 900 bombings.

"Last night, Russia terrorized Ukraine with over 50 drone strikes, and over the course of the week it launched more than 900 bombs, some 30 missiles and suicide bombs across various regions of Ukraine," he said.

According to Zelensky, "civilian and critical infrastructure" is targeted the most.

"All these attacks would be impossible if we had sufficient support from the world in certain respects: long-range capabilities for our security, really effective sanctions to impede Russia importing key drone and missile production materials, and policy decisions that could undermine Russia's will to continue this war," he said. Zelensky said.

He said "Ukraine deserves the same security as our partners in the free world," and posted on platform X - formerly known as Twitter - some images of destruction in different parts of Ukraine.

Ukraine has long sought the green light from the West to use the weapons it sends to attack Russia deeper, but it has not been allowed to do so.

Russia has repeatedly threatened that if the West allows Ukraine to use long-range weapons to attack, it does not rule out the possibility of nuclear weapons.

The Pentagon announced a new military aid to Ukraine last week worth $425 million.

The announcement was made just days before the U.S. presidential election, which has great importance for the continuation of U.S. aid to Ukraine.

The war in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022.

Russian President Vladimir Putin calls the war a "special military operation" to demilitarize Ukraine.

The West has responded to Russia, hitting the country's economy with harsh sanctions.

Thousands of people have died as a result of the war and millions more have been displaced from their homes.
