Ukrainian forces have managed to secure even more territory from Russia, as they continue for days with the counter-offensive.

The news was given by President Volodymyr Zelensky himself, in a video published late Monday evening, when he pointed out that his troops have recovered more than 6 thousand square kilometers of land since the beginning of September, mainly in the east and south of the country.

Russia itself has acknowledged that it has lost control of what it considers key towns in the northeastern Kharkiv region, in what many military experts call a potential Russian breakthrough in the war.

Moscow has also said that it is withdrawing its own troops from these regions, to regroup, with the aim of focusing on the eastern regions, Luhansk and Donetsk, before winter.

Even from the US, this is seen as Russia's most shameful moment, since it tried to enter the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, at the end of March, where it failed.

Also speaking on Monday evening, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said Ukrainian forces had made significant progress in their counter-offensive but it was still too early to predict a triumph.

The advance of the Ukrainian army has been rapid. Only last Thursday, President Zelensky said that Ukrainian forces had recaptured 1,000 square kilometers, on Sunday they reached 3,000 and today they are at 6,000 square kilometers.
