Serbian historian and political analyst Dragomir Anđelković believes that legal changes in Serbia are serving Aleksandar Vučić  as a negotiation mechanism in relations with the European Union, citizens, and the opposition.

According to him, the elections will not be held this year, but next year, while he says that the Serbian head of state intends to "propose" a transitional government.

Anđelković is convinced that Vučić, at a certain point, plans to leave Serbia and that precisely for this reason he fears the massive repression of the population.

Speaking in an interview with N1, quoted by KosovaPress, Anđelković said that Vučić is aware that most people, including those within the system, are no longer afraid, and therefore he is trying to change the system itself.

Vučić, the expert said, has replaced his loyalists with people who are aware that his downfall would lead them to prison.

"The prosecution initiates proceedings, but faces ignorance from the police. This resembles a quasi-coup d'état," said Anđelković.

He adds that Vučić has managed to create parallel mechanisms of force and government while ignoring the fact that the majority of citizens are against him.

Currently, power rests on the fear that repression may be used, but mass repression is not easy to achieve.

" It's not the same to hit one, five or twenty people, and it's a completely different thing to face a mass protest. If March 15 were to be repeated, this time with a clear and profiled leadership, Vučić would have serious reasons to fear. If he 'seriously sheds blood', many doors will be closed ," underlined Anđelković, who is convinced that the president will propose a gradual and gentle departure, together with his circle of interests, while demanding some guarantees in return.
