Trump threatens Iran regime: We are ready to intervene (but CIA urges President
Protests in Iran

US President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iranian leaders, saying that if Iran attacks, he is ready to respond immediately and that Tehran will pay a heavy price. He also stressed that the United States will support those seeking freedom and is ready to intervene, while media reports say he has a list of possible targets that could be hit in the event of intervention.

However, in practice, the White House is using a cautious and tactical approach, known as "wait and see", to monitor developments in the revolt in Iran and understand if there are weaknesses in state structures.

The CIA analysis shows that the Islamic Republic's leaders remain strong and there are no signs of a dramatic change, giving Trump room to plan actions without rushing.

The president has avoided meeting with Reza Pahlavi, the last son of the Shah of Iran and a figure known to protesters, following the model previously used in Venezuela, where interim solutions were entrusted to interim leaders, rather than involving direct opponents.

Meanwhile, experts note that military intervention could further increase tensions within the country, but Iran has worked in recent months to strengthen its missile arsenal and improve military capabilities, giving the US the ability to strike from a distance with advanced weapons, including cruise missiles and other weapons, that have previously been tested against protected nuclear facilities.

US strategists and political leaders have considered the possibility of a large-scale air strike, but there is no consensus and the necessary military assets have not been moved, leaving Tehran on the sidelines and using the threat as a means of pressure. Trump has shown in the past that he is capable of using pre-tactical tactics, giving signs of openness to dialogue but maintaining the strategic advantage for the US.

Any American, and perhaps even Israeli, intervention risks reinforcing the “foreign conspiracy” narrative that Tehran repeatedly uses to legitimize its stance toward the protesters. However, Trump’s warnings demonstrate his willingness to use all options, diplomatic and military, to protect US interests and keep up the pressure on Iranian leaders.

In this situation, the American strategy remains twofold: wait and watch, but at the same time warn and put the military on alert, using technological advantage and sophisticated surveillance tactics to maintain control over developments and prevent the situation from getting out of control.
