It hasn't even been three days since the incredible scene in the Oval Office between Donald Trump and Zohran Mamdani where the president gave him " permission " to call him a fascist, and the mayor-elect of New York did just that.
In an interview on NBC 's " Meet the Press , " Mamdani was asked if he still considered Trump a threat to democracy.
"I continue to believe everything I've said in the past ," the New York mayor responded, adding: "I think it's important in our politics not to shy away from points where we disagree."
In his victory speech on November 4, Mamdani said New York had proven it could be a "light" in a "period of political darkness."
" If there is one way to scare a tyrant, it is to destroy the conditions that allowed him to accumulate power ," Mamdani said.
"So, Donald Trump, I know you're looking at me, I have three words for you: Turn up the volume ," Mamdani said.
Trump had harshly attacked Mamdani during the campaign, calling him a “crazy communist .” But the two met at the White House in a remarkably calm manner, with Trump saying Mamdani “ could do a great job” and that “ we’ll help him .”
The two men agreed to work together on housing and the cost of living, expressing their shared love for New York.
“ We agreed on a lot more than I would have expected , ” Trump said in the Oval Office, where, as the Guardian notes, he even tried to shield his guest from some aggressive questions from reporters.
