An Albanian prisoner has spectacularly escaped from a prison in Italy.

The Italian authorities say they are looking for the 40-year-old Albanian convicted of drug trafficking, and suspect that he is hiding in the Abruzzo area.

According to Italian media, the 40-year-old Albanian was helped by an external drone.

The police statement states that "It is suspected that the prisoner escaped thanks to the help of an external drone, which provided him with the necessary means to leave Teramo prison. The incident happened in the early hours of this morning. At the moment, the recordings of all Teramo prison cameras are being examined to understand the exact dynamics of the escape carried out by the Albanian prisoner".

The event has caused reactions in Italy, where many of them, including the media, have described the event as "an action worthy of a movie".
