Powerful explosions rocked two tankers on Friday that have been sanctioned for transporting Russian oil.
The two tankers, part of the so-called "shadow fleet", were near the coast of Turkey in the Black Sea.
These are the Gambian-flagged ships Kairos and Virat, which were heading towards Novorossiysk.
The first has been sanctioned by the EU and the UK and the second by the EU and the US. Virat appears to have been stationary in the western Black Sea for most of 2025.
Footage shows a thick cloud of smoke rising from one ship and flames from the other. Turkish authorities have confirmed the explosions. It is not clear if there are any injuries.
The causes are currently unknown. If this was a deliberate attack, it is not clear who might be responsible.
