Donald Trump's press secretary attacks BBC: 100% fake news

President Donald Trump's press secretary, Caroline Leavitt, has accused the BBC of being "100% fake news" and "a left-wing propaganda machine."

Her statements were made in an interview with the British newspaper The Telegraph, following criticism of the public broadcaster for the way it had edited part of Trump's speech in a documentary.

According to a leaked document, allegedly written by the BBC's former editorial standards adviser, Michael Prescott, the program had manipulated two different parts of Trump's speech on January 6, 2021, before the attack on the Capitol. In the broadcast version, Trump was seen urging his supporters to "fight with all their might," while the part where he called on them to "protest peacefully and patriotically" was removed.

The document also mentions other criticisms of the BBC, including the way BBC Arabic covered the war in Gaza, which allegedly used commentators with anti-Semitic or pro-Hamas views. It also says that there is ideological bias in the BBC's editorial staff in reporting on issues of gender identity and the LGBT community, with a lack of balance and critical discussion.

In its response, the BBC stated that it does not comment on leaked documents, but that any reaction to its coverage is taken seriously and carefully considered.

According to Leavitt, “every time I’m in Britain and I watch the BBC, my day is ruined by their propaganda and lies about President Trump.” She said British taxpayers “are forced to fund a left-wing propaganda machine that doesn’t reflect reality.”
