Australia is experiencing moments of terror after today's massacre on Sydney beach, where at least 12 people were killed and 29 injured after a terrorist attack.
Authorities said there are no signs of further attacks to follow.
One of the perpetrators was killed and the other was seriously injured. There are also suspicions of a third person being involved in the attack.
"There are no indications of further attacks following the incident on Sydney beach," a spokesman for Australia's National Security Agency said.
One of them was identified as 24-year-old Narvind Akram. A senior law enforcement official confirmed that one of the gunmen was Narvind Akram, from Bonnyrigg, southwest of Sydney.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said police had raided Akram's home in Bonnyrigg.
The death toll in Sydney is "higher than reported," Israel's ambassador to Australia, Amir Maimon, told Channel 12 News.
There was no specific information about an imminent attack, Maimon said after speaking with Australian authorities, but there had been warnings about the possibility of terrorist attacks.
"Since October 7, we have seen a series of actions against the Jewish community and its institutions, a series that has only intensified," Maimon said, adding that he has publicly stated on many occasions that "if I woke up one morning and learned that a Jew had been physically harmed, I would not be surprised."
At the same time, he said he was "shocked by this mass killing and the Australian government's inability to prevent it."
