A small town in Nevada, USA is being terrorized by a 'biblical' infestation of cannibalistic insects that have covered the streets, invaded buildings and alarmed residents.

The insects that have invaded Elko are not only devouring all the crops, but are also a traffic hazard as millions of them were crushed by cars, creating a slippery surface.

Residents are also dealing with hordes of insects covering the ground, crawling through walls and invading buildings.

Despite their name, the insects look a lot like grasshoppers, according to the University of Nevada. They do not fly, but walk or crawl.

And although they are completely harmless to humans, insects are still frightening for locals who suffer from phobias.
