As the US military waits for orders, President Donald Trump still believes in negotiations with Iran. The White House chief of staff said that for him, it would be fantastic if the US did not have to carry out an attack against the government of Tehran.

“We have a lot of very large and very powerful ships sailing towards Iran right now. And it would be great if we didn’t have to use them. I told the Iranians two things. Number one, no nukes. And number two, stop killing the protesters, but they’re killing them by the thousands. I stopped 837 hangings two weeks ago. Nobody has done anything like that ,” Trump said.

US officials say Trump is considering his options but has not decided whether to attack Iran. US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has said the military is fully prepared to carry out any orders.

"When you said, Mr. President, 'we are securing the border,' the military was proud to do its part alongside the Department of Homeland Security. The same thing with Iran now, making sure they have all the options to make a deal. They should not have a nuclear capability. We will be prepared to provide everything this president expects from the Department of War," he said.

Trump has repeatedly threatened to intervene if Iran continues to kill protesters, but demonstrations across the country over economic hardship and political repression have since subsided. The president has said the United States will act if Tehran resumes its nuclear program following June airstrikes by Israeli and American forces on key nuclear sites.
