South Korea's president steps down, declares he will cancel martial law
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has declared that he will withdraw the decision on the state of emergency in the country, just hours after the announcement.

He faced numerous objections, including from his own party which joined the votes with other forces to decide in Parliament by majority that it did not agree with the decision.

With 190 votes out of a possible 300, the South Korean parliament decided against Yoon's decision to declare martial law in the country.

Scores of protesters gathered in front of the parliament building as the military deployed in front of them and on the streets of Seoul.
