Russia's largest natural gas pipeline to Europe will not resume supplies until Siemens Energy repairs the damaged equipment, Deputy CEO of Gazprom, Vitaly Markelov, has told Reuters, writes The Guardian.
Gazprom said on Friday that the Nord Stream 1 pipeline would remain shut after a turbine had an engine oil leak, raising wholesale gas prices.
When asked when Nord Stream 1 would start pumping gas again, Markelov said: “ You have to ask Siemens. First they have to repair the equipment ." Siemens Energy said an engine oil leak did not justify keeping the pipeline shut.
"We cannot understand this based on the information provided over the weekend. Therefore, until further notice, our assessment is that the finding communicated to us does not represent a technical reason for stopping the pipeline.
Such leaks do not normally affect the operation of a turbine,” Siemens Energy said in a written statement.
