OpenAI CEO and co-founder Sam Altman was fired after lying to his company's board, according to an announcement released Friday.

A company statement said, " Mr. Altman's removal follows a consultative review process by the board, which concluded that he was consistently dishonest in his communications with the board, impeding his ability to exercise his responsibilities his. The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue to lead OpenAI."

Mira Murati, CTO of OpenAI, will become interim CEO in his place, according to the statement.

Altman became one of the most important people in the world of artificial intelligence after his company released ChatGPT in November 2022, an AI-generating chatbot that amassed more than 100 million users in less than a year.
