The spread of the "mpox" virus, also known as monkeypox, is now a global health emergency, the World Health Organization announced.

This virus is widespread in Africa, especially in the Congo. But recently finding a case in Sweden has raised the alarm in Europe as well. Similarly, the USA has also raised the health alarm.

Health authorities are calling for a plan of measures to prevent the spread.

But are we facing another pandemic after the one of Covid-19?

According to the Associated Press, this should be impossible. Pandemics, such as Covid-19 or swine flu, spread through the air and are highly virulent.

Meanwhile, the transmission of the "mpox" virus is transmitted from person to person through skin contact of infected persons or close contact at a short distance. Less often from contaminated objects.

Compared to the coronavirus, "mpox" spreads much more slowly. Unlike the Covid-19 pandemic, there are vaccines and drug treatments for "mpox".

"We have what it takes to stop mpox. This is not the same situation we faced at the beginning of Covid-19, when there were no vaccines and no drugs," says Dr. Chris Bearer, director of Duke University's Institute for Global Health.

96% of monkeypox cases are recorded in Congo, one of the poorest countries in the world.
