An unusual event is reported in Livorno, Italy, where a man has asked for a divorce from his wife after 18 years after he says he discovered that she is... a man.

The man claims that he discovered that his wife's biological sex at birth was male and that he was never informed of this fact.

The "discovery" came during the divorce proceedings and from there the decision to request the annulment of the marriage contract.

The court of Livorno, however, after a few months denied it and now the man will only be able to proceed with a regular divorce. However, the two (soon-to-be-ex) spouses report different versions of what was said and what was hidden.

The Court's decision regarding the request for annulment of the marriage contract states that not knowing the gender of the spouse at birth "cannot be qualified as an error regarding the identity of the person, nor as an essential error regarding the personal qualities of the other spouse. ”, as reported by Corriere della Sera.

This is why the husband was denied the annulment of the contract, despite the fact that the husband said that if he had known beforehand, he would not have consented to the wedding.

The woman tells another story, according to which the man was informed before the wedding and from the beginning of the relationship. Meanwhile, the two had been married for 18 years, from 2003 to 2021, and had started the necessary procedures for adoption since she could not have children. In this regard, the man's version is that she told a story about an illness for which her uterus was removed.

According to the court report, the man did not want to elaborate on why his wife was unable to have children, even though she had said she was willing to talk about the gender reassignment, which happened in 1992, years before the two met. .
