NASA has assembled the world's top scientists this month, beginning work to find the best way to study the unexplained phenomena seen in the skies around the world. The hope is to find at least a scientific way to study them in the future.

Their work will help the US space agency "come to scientific conclusions" that can explain what is observed. The study will last nine months, after which the results will be made public.

The program follows the will of the United States Congress to shed light on 144 "unidentified aerial phenomena" discovered by military personnel since 2004. The NASA official in charge of the project is Daniel Evans, who is the assistant administrator for Research from NASA's Science Mission Directorate.

The task force is chaired by David Spergel, President of the Simons Foundation, who explained: "NASA has brought together some of the world's leading scientists, from data processing professionals to experts in artificial intelligence and aerospace security, who will be intended to show us how to analyze UAP phenomena in the best way".

The 16-member team that will examine unclassified data on a large number of unexplained aerial phenomena will include astronaut Scott Kelly, who has previously participated in four space missions, including three to the International Space Station. Space, where he was also the commander.

UAP means "unidentified aerial phenomena", a term that has replaced UFOs (unidentified flying objects), and which has almost always made people think of phenomena of extraterrestrial origin.
