Former South Korean Defense Minister Kim Jong-hyun, in office when martial law was declared a week ago, which however lasted only a few hours, attempted suicide in a detention center.
According to international media, Kim made this attempt shortly before his arrest was officially announced for his role in declaring martial law on the night of December 3-4.
He resigned last Thursday, a day after withdrawing the measure under pressure from parliament and thousands of protesters.
