US President Joe Biden

US President Joe Biden is expected to announce a new policy that would 'save' hundreds of thousands of immigrants from deportation. These are immigrants who are spouses of American citizens, men and women, and do not have the necessary documents.

The Democratic president's decision to legalize immigrants will apply to those who have been in the US for at least 10 years and allow them to work legally.

The White House estimates that this move will benefit more than 500,000 spouses of American citizens, as well as 50,000 young people under the age of 21 whose parent is married to an American citizen.

In early June, Joe Biden pledged to his fellow citizens to make the US immigration system "fairer."

However, those who meet the requirements will have three years to apply for permanent residence and will be eligible for a three-year work permit. The White House noted that those who qualify for the process have been in the U.S. for an average of 23 years and most were born in Mexico.
