First case of HMPV virus confirmed in Greece

The first confirmed case of the so-called HMPV metapneumovirus is detected in Thessaloniki.

It concerns a 71-year-old man who is hospitalized at Papanikolaou Hospital.

The news was published by the private television station Open and official statements from doctors are awaited.

It is about the metapneumovirus that has taken the form of a pandemic in China for weeks and is a virus known to doctors.

The case in question was found in a 71-year-old man, whose daughter traveled to China during the year-end holidays and a few days after returning, her father showed the first symptoms.

He initially went to a private clinic, then on January 3rd he was admitted for treatment at Papanikolaou Hospital – which was accepting patients that day and has one of the best lung clinics. On Saturday he underwent a PCR test and on Monday the results showed that he was positive for the HMPV virus.
