Kim Jong Un: I ordered military to destroy the US completely if they provoke us

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said his military must "completely destroy" the United States and South Korea if provoked, according to Pyongyang's state media reports on Monday, as he vowed to reinforce national defense to face, as he put it, unprecedented American confrontation.

At a five-day party meeting last week, Kim jong un said he would launch three more military espionage satellites, produce even more nuclear material and produce offensive drones this year. Observers say the warnings are an attempt to increase its weight in terms of U.S. and diplomatic engagements in the future.

During Sunday's meeting with top military officials, the North Korean leader said urgently needed to sharpen "the precious sword" to preserve national security, referring to his country's nuclear weapons production program. He cited "confrontational movements of the United States and other hostile military forces" according to North Korea's official KCNA news agency.

Kim jong un stressed that "our military must deal a lethal blow and completely destroy them, using the strongest means without any guess" if they choose military confrontation and provocations against North Korea, according to KCNA.

In a New Year's address monday, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said he would reinforce the country's military ability to launch a pre-emptive strike as well as missile defense and other retaliatory capabilities in response to North Korea's nuclear threat.

"The Republic of Korea is building a true, lasting peace through power, not through a subject peace that depends on the good will of the enemy," Yoon said in his address to the nation.

At the party meeting, Kim Jong Un called South Korea "a flawed country and a subservient colonial state" whose society has been "polluted with American culture." He said his military should use all available means, including nuclear weapons, to "crush all south Korean territory" in the event of conflict.

South Korea's Defense Ministry warned on Sunday that if North Korea tries to use nuclear weapons, U.S. and South Korean forces will hit it hard, ending leader Kim Jong Un's rule.

According to North Korea's official news agency, North Korean officials met Monday to implement the country's leader Kim Jong Un's order to dissolve or reform organizations that manage relations with South Korea to change the basic principle and leadership of North Korea's battle against the South. It is unclear how that could affect relations between the two Koreas, which have stalled for a long time.

Experts say low-level military clashes could be expected this year between North and South Korea along their fortified border. They say it is expected that North Korea will continue tests with long-range missiles that could reach U.S. territory and other new weapons.

In 2018-19 Kim Jong Held Three Summits with U.S. President Trump, in which the expansion of North Korea's nuclear arsenal was discussed. Diplomatic efforts failed after the United States rejected a proposal by Pyongyang to demolish its main nuclear complex, a limited step in exchange for a broad easing of U.S. sanctions.

Since 2022, North Korea has conducted over 100 missile tests, prompting America and South Korea to expand joint military exercises. North Korea has also pushed for further rapprochement with China and Russia, which blocked efforts by the United States and its partners on the U.N. Security Council to toughen U.N. sanctions on North Korea over missile and other weapons tests.

According to KCNA, President Kim and Chinese President Xi Jinping exchanged New Year's messages monday to strengthen bilateral relations. There are suspicions that North Korea has supplied conventional weapons to Russia for the war in Ukraine in exchange for sophisticated Russian technologies to improve military programs.

Estimates on North Korea's nuclear arsenal are varied, ranging from 20 to 30 bombs to over 100. Many foreign experts estimate that North Korea still has some technological obstacles in its efforts to produce long-range nuclear-powered missiles, although short-range ones could hit South Korea and Japan. /VOA
