"Snails and rabbits", Kurti attacks Kosovo prosecutors: I won't
Albin Kurti

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has harshly attacked the judiciary, accusing the Kosovo Prosecution Office of a one-sided approach to investigations.

He said that the prosecution "does not react quickly when it is not about the Vetëvendosje Movement", but "acts immediately when there is an allusion to any procedural error by Vetëvendosje".

Kurti has used harsh terms against prosecutors, calling them "snails" and "rabbits." During the interview with KTV, Kurti said that "11 ministries have submitted 250 criminal reports and requests for investigation." But Kurti claims that the Prosecution is not taking action.

" In this case, what I can conclude is that when it comes to our requests for investigation and criminal charges, the prosecution acts like snails, while if any procedural violation of a ministry or any allusion appears on any portal, from slow snails they turn into fast rabbits. There are no indictments, there is no epilogue ," Kurti said.

Kurti has refused to respond to the Special Prosecution's request to appear as a witness, directly criticizing the Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecution, Blerim Isufaj.

"… He shouldn't be there as a witness, that's the goal. They want to do something similar but softer than they can now, like with Hashim Rexhepi, who they took out handcuffed from the CBK. The prosecutors have attacked all our ministers. The prosecutors have come to the Prime Minister's office even before. I dare to tell you I'm not coming. Let's see now if they dare to come. Always publicly, I have nothing privately ," Kurti added.

The Prime Minister described Isufaj as “the director of the scene when Kurti enters the Prosecution and becomes international news for corruption.” He also recalled the fact that the Government and the Presidency have not accepted Isufaj as Chief Prosecutor, although he was elected by the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council.

" We have difficulties with the Chief State Prosecutor, who is headed by Blerim Isufaj. Exactly a year ago, he came out publicly and told us that the arrest warrant against Milan Radoiçiqi had been lifted, three months after the murder of Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku. We have this kind of person at the head of the KPK. The prosecution is not part of the solution, it is part of the problem. Its dome. All these prosecutors have the right to become chief prosecutors, but they are telling us either Blerim Isufaj or no one else. For justice, if Blerim Isufaj becomes chief prosecutor, far be it, or someone like him, then there is no hope for justice ," Kurti said.

Following Kurti's statements, Chief Prosecutor Isufaj has announced a press conference today at 1:00 PM, where he is expected to provide answers on the Prime Minister's accusations and the current situation.

The Prosecution's announcement states: "We inform you that on Monday, December 30, 2024, starting at 1:00 PM, the Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecution, Mr. Blerim Isufaj, will hold a press conference."
