27-year-old Iranian singer Parastoo Ahmadi, who was arrested for not wearing a hijab during a performance broadcast on social media, has been released.

The news was reported by sources close to the Iranian opposition, according to the Israeli channel Abu Ali Express. The online concert was viewed more than 1.4 million times. According to Iranian and Islamic law, women are not allowed to appear without a hijab in front of men who are not related to them.

Three days ago, the justice authorities opened proceedings against the singer who had performed, accompanied by 4 male musicians, in a long and tight black dress, with bare shoulders and without a headscarf in her hair: an outfit that openly violates the rules established by the Islamic Republic.

Ahmady had posted her concert on YouTube the day before, saying: "I am Parastoo, a girl who wants to sing for the people I love. This is a right I could not ignore: to sing for the land I love with passion."

The concerns expressed by many Iranian women and the protest demonstrations are perhaps achieving some results. Tehran's parliament was supposed to have formalized a new, even stricter law on the wearing of the hijab on December 13. However, this did not happen after the required pause for reflection.

One of the officials said there was concern that the new law could cause unnecessary conflict in the country. The new law, which has been heavily criticized by activists, lawyers and celebrities, provides for heavy penalties of fines, imprisonment and asset seizure for women who are not covered or who do not fully respect the use of the hijab.

The court may consider the crime of women who encourage disrespect for the headscarf law in coordination with foreign states as "corruption," a crime for which you can be sentenced to death.
