With a surprising political move, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has shocked the Europeans, as he has created a political party in Germany, which has at the core of its program the fight against anti-Muslim racism.

The new party, which is expected to compete in June's European elections, will be called the Democratic Alliance for Diversity and Awakening (DAVA) and was officially established on January 7.

The party is a branch of its mother AKP, which is led by the Turkish leader and aims to gain the trust of over 1.5 million Turkish voters in Germany and other citizens of foreign origin.

The new party is expected to be led by Teyfik Özcan, who has insisted that the party's finances will be provided entirely from within the country, in full compliance with electoral law, as it is illegal in Germany to receive funds from foreign countries.

The creation of DAVA has caused reactions and concerns in Berlin. The first to react against it is Cem Özdemir, the German Minister of Agriculture, who is of Turkish descent.

He wrote on the X platform: "An Erdogan branch running in the elections here is the last thing we need."

Even the vice-president of the largest conservative opposition party Christian Democrats (CDU), Jens Spahn, criticized this initiative of Erdogan. He wrote on social networks: "An Erdogan-AKP branch in Germany would be another extreme party in the country."

Meanwhile, Germany's leading liberal candidate Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, when asked about DAVA, told Die Welt: "We are currently seeing parties popping up everywhere, and their sole purpose and exercise is to ultimately tear Europe apart from within."
