Two days after the tensions in the north where the Serbs tried to prevent the new mayors from entering the municipal facilities, the situation appears calm today.
The spokesperson of the Kosovo Police for the region of Mitrovica, Veton Elshan, declares that the police are continuing to stay at the points where they stayed earlier, near the municipalities.
"The situation is calm, the police are continuing to stay at the points where they were earlier, near the facilities of the municipalities of Zubin Potok, Leposaviç and Zveçan. No incident is reported," he announced.
On Friday, Serbian citizens attempted to block municipal facilities and prevent the entry of new Albanian mayors. As a result, five policemen were injured and four official cars were damaged. For the recent developments in the north, there have been numerous reactions from the United States of America and the European Union, who asked not to escalate the situation as this does not help the dialogue process between the two countries. Meanwhile, the president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani and the country's prime minister, Albin Kurti, congratulated the Kosovo Police for the work done, reiterating that law and order must prevail throughout the country.
