Donald Trump under criminal charges, Democrats: No one is above the law

US President Joe Biden has not commented on the indictment of his predecessor and there has been little official response from the Democratic National Committee.

But some Democrats have spoken out, including senior House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, long one of Trump's staunchest critics.

She tweeted: “No one is above the law and everyone has the right to a trial to prove their innocence.

"We hope the former president will peacefully respect the system, which gives him that right," she said, adding that the grand jury that voted to indict "acted according to the facts and the law."
