Dozens dead after storms hit Brazilian coasts

Authorities in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo report that at least 36 people have died in heavy flooding and landslides, forcing several cities to cancel annual carnival celebrations.

Rescue teams have struggled to reach survivors and unblock roads.

More than 600mm of rain fell in some areas on Sunday, double the amount expected for the month.

Dozens of people are reported missing and around 50 houses have collapsed from the rubble and the situation is extremely critical.
