Train carrying 130 passengers derails on Glasgow-London route

In the early hours of Monday morning (November 3), chaos reigned in northwest England after a train travelling from Glasgow to London derailed shortly after 6am while travelling between the Penrith North Lakes and Oxenholme Lake District areas, in Cumbria.

Transport Minister Heidi Alexander announced that it was a "major and serious incident" but noted that "there are no reports of injuries."

According to authorities, police, fire and ambulance forces have rushed to the scene, where the train accident occurred.

Sources say that approximately 130 passengers traveling on the train have been safely evacuated and taken to a hotel in the area.

Train services have been completely disrupted between Carlisle and Preston, causing major delays and cancellations that are expected to continue until the end of the day.

Management company Avanti West Coast announced that "all lines are blocked north of Preston" and warned passengers not to attempt to travel north today.
