Brussels reveals the reason why Von der Leyen left Kosovo without holding a
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen did not hold a press conference in Pristina after her meetings with President Vjosa Osmani and acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, breaking the practice she has followed so far on her annual visit to the Western Balkan countries.

Kosovo, but also North Macedonia will have the same fate. And the reason behind this is the current elections that were held and will be held in these two countries in order not to break the practice of the European Union in such cases.

This was stated by the European Commission spokesperson, Paula Pinho, in a response to Express.

"The reason for not holding the press conference in Kosovo and North Macedonia is due to the elections that are in progress or expected to be held soon, according to common practice."

EU leaders avoided press conferences in countries where there are elections in efforts to maintain political neutrality and avoid any influence on the election campaign.

However, von der Leyen made a public statement in X where she left brief messages for Kosovo.

"We remain committed to a future where all six Western Balkan partners are part of our Union. For this, it is important that Kosovo continues to build strong institutions. To reduce tensions in the country. Also, Kosovo must finalize the necessary steps to benefit from the Growth Plan," she wrote.

On the other hand, Osman and Kurti's offices revealed little of the content of the meetings they held at the Presidency and in the Assembly. They asked for the lifting of measures against Kosovo, the advancement of the membership application, and discussed the Growth Plan and Kosovo's path towards the EU.
