Ghislaine Maxwell, convicted accomplice of the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, told Justice Department officials last month that President Trump "never behaved inappropriately with anyone" while Epstein and the incoming general president were friends.
Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence after being convicted in December 2021 of sex trafficking and conspiracy charges, sat for two days in interviews led by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche in Tallahassee, Florida, last month.
"I've never seen the President in any inappropriate environment in any way," Maxwell-Blanche told of her interactions with Trump when he was still an associate of Epstein in the 1990s and early 2000s.
Audio and interview transcripts were released on Friday, as the Trump administration seeks to quell widespread speculation about Epstein, who was found dead in his Manhattan jail cell on August 10, 2019.
Maxwell, 63, during the interview denied almost every conspiracy charge brought against Epstein since his first guilty plea in Florida to the charge of attempted sexual intercourse with a minor, which landed him in prison for 13 months, most of that time on parole.
They included allegations that Epstein had a so-called "client list" of wealthy and influential associates who were either implicated or blackmailed by Epstein into keeping quiet about an obscure sex trafficking network that exploited girls as young as 14.
Maxwell compared the allegations to a rampage of "a witch trial in Salem" against powerful politicians like former President Bill Clinton.
"That narrative that was created and then constructed, and just turned into what — basically this is like a witch trial in Salem," she explained.
Maxwell parted ways with the official version at one point, saying of Epstein "I don't believe he died by suicide," opposing the conclusion of a July 6 memo released by the Justice Department and FBI.
She added that it was "possible" that the 66-year-old had been targeted in his Manhattan prison by others, but she did not believe his so-called "blackmail" had now turned into revenge.
"I don't think Epstein had made such an attack. If it is really murder, I believe it was an internal situation," she claimed.
