The demand of businesses for qualified workforce, in the conditions where the phenomenon of immigration in Albania has been growing, has led to the realization of several contracts with foreign employees during the past year.

According to the data of the State Labor Inspectorate, the increase in the employment of foreign workers in 2023 results in 86% compared to the previous year, which has caused special attention to be paid to inspection practice in the control of their working conditions. to ensure that they have safe, fair and equal working conditions.

But how are foreigners working in Albania distributed according to sectors? 

The State Labor Inspectorate has inspected a total of 9,820 private entities, in which 1,350 foreign workers were found, where 27 of them were found to be without work permits.

Divided by sector, the highest number of foreign employees found in the inspected entities results in manufacturing enterprises, with around 592 employees, followed by the Trade-Hotel-Bar-Restaurant sector with 195 employees recorded, this is also driven by the good tourist season last year, which made these structures need more staff.

Next is the construction sector with 147 employees. While the transport and telecommunication sectors, electricity, water, gas, finance, etc., have a much lower number.

Recently, the Albanian government has announced that it is towards the finalization of a contract to "import" qualified employees from the Philippines who will meet the needs mainly of the tourism and manufacturing sectors.
