The Albanian government will pay an additional 4.3 million euros for the Korçë-Ersekë road. The Albanian Road Authority has modified the contract with the road construction company ANK by adding costs for the realization of new works on the ground. This brings the total cost of the second part, the second lot of this road to 26 million euros without VAT.
ARRSH has not opened a new tender for the additional works, but they will be carried out by the company ANK, which was the winner of the initial project, arguing that this form is less expensive. Also, the additional contract does not exceed 20% of the value of the basic contract, which is the threshold allowed by the legislation in force for the modification of contracts. The contracting authority estimates that the total cost of additional works is 19%.
As for the changes to the project, the documents state that a review of the bridge project over the Selenica stream was carried out, as during the implementation it turned out that the bridge provided for in the tendered project did not cover the width of the river bed, which at different times of the year widens his bed.
Also, a review of the project was carried out in relation to the improvement of the road surface, because during the implementation of the works, the presence of water was encountered at the excavation depth of 2.5 - 3 m.
The reason for the modification of the contract is the change of volumes due to the non-compliance of the project with the fact on the ground, as well as the non-compliance of the project with the estimate. The modification of the contract was signed on August 30, while the deadline for the completion of the works went to 22 months, from 18 months that was the initial deadline.
