The Vorë-Hani i Hoti railway will be electric and the trains on it will be able to move at a speed of up to 120 kilometers per hour.
The 120 kilometer long infrastructural work is expected to be completed in 2030, making it possible for 2.3 million travelers and 900 thousand tons of goods to move through it every year. The details are published in the loan agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development brought to the Assembly for approval by the government.
"It is the only international line that the country has, let's say, for the transport of passengers and goods, since before the 90s. It connects Albania with Montenegro through the Tuzi station to then continue to Podgorica and the connection with other capitals of that part of the Region such as Belgrade, Zagreb, Ljubljana and even Budapest", said Erjola Muka, Infrastructure and Territory Development, MINE.
According to the report accompanying the agreement, the railway line is expected to consist of 12 stations, 12 bridges and a 320 meter long tunnel. The average travel time from Vora to Hanin e Hoti is expected to be 2 hours.
"Thus, the fuel is eliminated and with this railway line we are completely approaching the standards of the European Union", added Muka.
The loan agreement with the EBRD, which is expected to be approved by the Assembly, has a value of 98.75 million euros. In total, the railway line is expected to cost 356 million euros.
