Euro recovers against dollar after Macron's win over Le Pen

The entire election campaign in France and Marine Le Pen's high quota placed euron in front of the US Dollar under a trysni. The European common currency lost points for six days in a row, but on Monday stabilised against the dollar after the result of the first round of elections, where Macron was ahead of Le Pen.

Investor concerns about the future direction of Eurozone's second largest economy have weighed on the common currency and added to concerns over the economic costs of the war in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the dollar has been pushed higher by rising US yields and expectations the Federal Reserve will act quickly to curb increased inflation.

Macron will face Le Pen in what promises to be a tough run-off of the French presidential election on April 24.

However, Macron's supremo in the first round eased the euro, lifting it by 0.75 percent at the opening of Asian stock exchanges.

Currency analysts said the clash between the two currencies that rule the global economy remains on the knife-point with negative implications for the euro.

"The narrower-than-expected victory for President Macron will keep alive fears that there is an outside chance of Le Pen becoming President," experts say.

First-round results and opinion polls showing towards a narrow result in the second round will continue to weigh on the value of the European common currency.

The dollar index - which tracks the green currency against six other currencies - was widely unchanged on election day.

While the dollar has gained ground, the Japanese yen has undergone some of the strongest selling pressures, with investors seeing little reason to bet against the yen as the Bank of Japan holds yields near zero.

The yen fell to a seven-year low against the dollar on the day of 125,435 yen per dollar. Eventually, he was down three-quarters of a percentage to 125.19.

Meanwhile, the Russian ruble weakened in concerned trade on Monday, reversing some of last week's gains, as the central bank decided to ease temporary capital control measures.
