Is Albania at risk from fuel shortage?

Albania is not at risk from a lack of hydrocarbon supply. The guarantee was given by the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi , during an interpellation in Parliament, where he emphasized that the country is not exposed to this risk.

According to him, energy security remains a national priority and the measures taken by the government to cope with the crisis are multifaceted. In this context, a transparency board has also been established, which aims to protect the final consumer from price fluctuations.

The Minister announced that, based on the legislation in force, a working group has been established that will conduct on-site verifications of the maintenance of safety reserves by companies operating in the hydrocarbon market.

Meanwhile, in the long term, the government has released for public consultation a new legal draft that changes the current model of reserves management. According to this proposal, hydrocarbon reserves will no longer be held by commercial companies, but will be transferred to the administration of state agencies.

"This is a new standard for Albania. The safety reserve will be functional in case of a shortage in the market, but currently there is no problem with supply," Karakaçi said.

At the same time, the minister announced that the plan of measures for urban and interurban public transport is expected to enter into force next week, after the completion of consultations with interest groups.
