It has been a tradition since the first years of the fall of a system that made us deny each other that in the Albanian press the month of December is commemorated as the source of the idea of pluralistic democracy, an idea that is related to the student revolts in 1990.
It is beyond any doubt that this movement certainly changed the pace of political developments in Albania and for the first time publicly identified the need for a multi-party system.
For this, its protagonists deserve respect.
But the insistence to exclude any other subject, as an individual or as a community, from the "merits of December", only adds to the doubts about the importance of the youth demonstrations.
It was time to kill fear.
The time when the dictatorship collapsed and when Albania was separating from the past. Someone came out of an alley and another from a corner; one saw his friend in the crowd, and the other a relative, until they all learned to find each other from a distance through the white overcoats, which, surprisingly, in that finished Albania, were found in abundance as soon as it happened the change.
I often think that Albania has not been lacking in epochal times. When the world was shaken by the storm of freedom brought by the philosophy of "Let it be!" of the "Beatles" or when people started thinking seriously about the hope of Martin Luther King "I have a dream", there was also a storm of thought and movement in Albania, that of 1968.
Fortunately, even at the time when the planet decided to melt the one between the two sides and unite in a conviction for "democracy as a mindset". Then, when the time came to prove the truth of G. Orwell's futuristic predictions ("Year 1984") about the end of dictatorships, Albania formed the "Generation of the 1990s", the generation that brought back the old dream of Europeanization, of European identity, of European citizenship and dignity.
Today it is clear to everyone that the student movement went towards the slogan "freedom-democracy" from the position of a right-wing policy.
The rebellion of the university youth, its legitimate dissatisfaction with the living conditions, the reasonable request to create an association that would not be related to the former BRPSH, very soon took on a different color than the one at the beginning.
At the meeting of the student representation with R. Alina in the Palace of Brigades, the former head of state was called "Come with us".
One of the participants requested that "a bust be raised for Comrade R. Alia", because Albania had "many busts". Another participant said that "the president should help the new opposition".
This was the spirit of beginnings. But before a week passed, the first Albanian opposition took on a different character. It was allergic to the open political definition as a right-wing alternative, because it called itself the People's Party. But the content of the program could not be kept secret.
The questions that have not yet received a clear answer to the thought and study even today after 32 years, in the same December as then, arise to me every time I have to start a memory card for this time that completely changed my life; were there individuals or groups of individuals who expressed themselves in favor of pluralism before the December movement?
Has this demand also been expressed by the positions of a left-wing political force?
Was the idea of parliamentary socialism and competition based on programs and votes processed in this alternative?
Very simply: apart from the people of action, who filled the streets and squares with the anger gathered from year to year and from decade to decade, were there those who thought about change in a different way, thinking about the fate of the country "One day more after", when there would be no more dictatorship and dictators?
