During the last decade, an extremely talked about topic that is getting more and more world attention is global warming, the side effects it brings and the measures that must be taken to prevent it.
A UN report from the beginning of August, with the figures presented, explains that climate change has come from human activities, bringing a gradual warming of the planet Earth. Temperatures have risen by just over 1.1 degrees Celsius since the pre-industrial 19th century.
Experts in the field say that in 20 years, the world is likely to reach and even exceed the warming threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius, leading to irreversible changes, such as melting glaciers, rising sea levels, devastating floods and droughts. the whole world.
From here we understand that wars and conflicts are not the only problem that the world is facing recently. The fight with nature is another challenge that humanity is yet to be aware of. And as in any war there is always a side that benefits and controls it.
But who can she be?
If we can look carefully, we know that this issue is much discussed and mainly arises as a problem in developed countries, because only their societies can have the luxury to develop their horizon of thought and demands beyond the minimum vital of living or having a normal standard level of the latter. As a result, these powerful countries with economic, cultural and social development will have to be the biggest beneficiaries of this war.
But what exactly do they benefit from?
There are two main motives for winning a war; economic and territorial motive. Logically because this is a war not between human beings, it remains to be only for economic reasons. The effects of global warming have led to the melting of large masses of ice in the Arctic, leading to the rise of sea levels and the opening of new roads in the same area.
We must emphasize that, among other things, it has been estimated that the Arctic holds approximately 30% of the world's undiscovered natural gas reserves and 13% of the planet's undiscovered oil reserves. Russia is believed to hold over half of the Arctic's total resources and to date has been the most active in its activities in the world's polar region, with a number of projects under development in the Barents and Kara Seas.
On the other hand, western companies are also eager to join. ExxonMobil, Statoil and Total have already launched significant partnerships with state-owned oil and gas giants Rosneft and Gazprom. But it has been the territorial disputes that have so far determined the development of the region.
What are they?
The United States and Canada disagree about the boundaries of the promising Beaufort Sea, as well as the legal status of the Northwest Passage; Norway and Russia apparently ended their 40-year-old dispute while Canada and Russia continue to defend their territorial sovereignty as far as the North Pole.
The enrichment of each country with resources of raw materials means more influence in international markets, economic growth due to trade and a freedom of aggression towards these assets because these states with their strengthening become more independent and not stubborn against the sanctions of established, as is the most recent case with Russia.
We know that the human being is greedy, able to take advantage of every step of nature regardless of its dangerous effects and countermeasures. According to a forecast, it is predicted that in the next 50 years important historical cities such as Venice or London in Europe or Manila or San Francisco on the other side of the world will be completely exterminated, becoming unlivable.
This whole phenomenon will carry other chain effects; large displacement of population and an economic-social chaos, a perfect scenario for a trending series on Netflix, where most of us follow it as an imaginary fable while only a minority manage to see details of a not-so-distant future.
And the paradox lies there when the heads of state themselves are the ones who come out in public statements saying that they are doing everything possible to prevent this problem, even raising different causes, while on the other hand the money spent on the intervention and discovering these areas that exceed billions of dollars only when they suddenly disappear to its detriment due to corruption.
In what order do we live?
The subjugation of societies by the governing elites seems to have achieved its goal; that capitalism and our daily routine are fed from time to time with threads of hope, dreaming that the us-them and them-us relationship goes parallel to the economic and intellectual enrichment of a generation that runs away and never comes again.
