A large-scale international operation against a structured criminal drug trafficking network was carried out this Wednesday by Italian authorities in Bari, in close cooperation with Albanian justice and order institutions.

As part of this joint action, 52 arrest warrants were issued, and assets worth several million euros were seized in both countries.

These measures directly hit the financial base of the criminal organization, which is suspected of trafficking cocaine and heroin on a route that crossed the Balkans, Italian Puglia and Northern Europe.

The operation is part of a joint investigation coordinated by the Anti-Mafia Directorate of Bari, SPAK, the National Bureau of Investigation (BKH), as well as other institutions such as Eurojust, Interpol, and the State Police. The aim of this long-term investigation is to target Albanian mafia organizations involved in international drug trafficking.
