Yesterday, two Greek police officers and the businessman from the village of Shales of the Municipality of Konispol, arrested on Friday after an anti-drug operation in Igoumenica, where 102 kg of cannabis were seized, appeared before the Court of Thesprotia.
The drugs were caught in the vehicle of the anti-drug sector of Igoumenica, driven by 41-year-old officer Kostantinos Nakos and with a passenger, 41-year-old businessman from the village of Shale in Konipoli, Arben Murto. They disobeyed police orders to stop but were caught after crashing into 3 parked vehicles. Officer Dimitrio Oikonomou, 50 years old, was also arrested with them, since at the time of the seizure of the vehicle with drugs, he should have been on duty together with his colleague Nakos, but he was found in a bar in Sajadh, near the border.
In yesterday's session, which lasted until late afternoon, Arben Murto stated that he believed he was participating in an official police operation. He affirmed that with this Konstantino Nakon had cooperation from the past and in fact, according to the information he provided, large quantities of drugs and their traffickers were identified in the past. According to Murto, he believed that last Friday he was participating in a legitimate police operation to locate and seize the amount of drugs.
The police officer Konstantino Nakos has claimed before the Court that he is a cocaine user and even for a long time. This addiction led him to the special transport of a large amount of cocaine. Based on the same information, he requested expertise to prove the cocaine use he claims.
While the officer Dimitrio Oikonomou claimed that he knew nothing about the actions of his colleague. The night they shared a service, he told her he was leaving for a while on personal business. He did not suspect anything strange and this is the reason why he also left the service weapon inside the vehicle. He even claimed that Nako left the bar after a verbal argument with other customers there.
At the end of the session, the Court has set the security measure "Arrest in prison" for Arben Murto and Konstantino Nako and the security measure "obligation to appear twice a month", "property guarantee" 8000 euros and "exit ban ” for Dinitrio Oikonomou.
