IKMT demolition teams continued this Saturday to demolish illegally constructed buildings in the Thethi area. Numerous police forces are present on the ground, while tensions remain high after yesterday's clash between residents and police.
Meanwhile, an Albanian-British tourist, who is staying in Theth for vacation, has recounted the shock he suffered from the IKMT intervention this morning.
He indicates that the intervention was unexpected and unaccompanied by any official warning.
“Hello! My name is Kujtim. I've been here for about 3 weeks, and I've booked for another month. I was sleeping there, and they suddenly came screaming: 'Get out, get out'. I said: 'What's going on?' They said: 'This is going to collapse.' I said: 'Why? Do you have any documents or anything?' 'No,' they said, 'it's just going to collapse,'” he says.
Kujtim states that he was not allowed to take his personal belongings from the premises where he was staying, while his passport and documents are still under the ruins of the collapsed building.
“Nobody gave me any reason, they didn’t explain anything to me. I said, ‘Okay, just wait because I have everything personal in there.’ No one even let me get my things. My passport is there, everything is there, under the rubble. I don’t know how it’s going to continue. I’m going straight from here to the British Embassy, I’ve filmed everything.”
The tourist indicates that he is determined to resolve this issue through the relevant institutions, but also expresses regret for the way tourists and local residents are being treated in an area with high tourist potential like Thethi.
"I think I'll solve this problem myself, if I'm allowed to get my passport there myself, under the rubble. Everyone wants to come here, it's not just about me. I live in England, I travel everywhere. I go to Egypt, wherever I go, everyone talks about Albania, about Thethi, to come and visit, it's a beautiful place."
Despite the situation, Kujtim appreciates the hospitality of local residents, mentioning a moment when one of the victims of the collapse, instead of confronting the police, offered them water.

"See this man whose building the police demolished? They are very good people. Instead of attacking (the police), he gives them water. This means that this country is investing heavily in every tourist who comes here."
