Euronews Albania discussed the case of the poisoning of students at the Security Academy a few days ago, where food safety experts Granit Sokolaj and Ana Vuksani were invited.
Granit Sokolaj focused on the important exam that students had on Friday at the Police Academy.
He said that the exam was difficult and was postponed, adding that all students have been through similar situations when they want an exam postponed or changed and resort to cheating.
"On Friday, the students of the Police Academy, the Security Academy, had a very important and difficult exam. We have all been students and we have done some trick, like postponing an exam or finding other ways to pass it. They had a difficult exam, which was postponed. Why shouldn't we believe this, when you in the media believe vox pops or comments on social networks," said Granit Sokolaj.
Meanwhile, Ana Vuksani called this a “conspiracy theory.” She criticized the institutions responsible for food safety, saying they have failed to find the cause of the poisoning and have consequently lost public trust. Vuksani added that both the prime minister and the EU ambassador have openly admitted that the level of food safety in the country is problematic and that the authorities have done more harm than they have guaranteed safety.
According to her, food safety is not simply a technical issue that can be solved with papers, but requires concrete actions and clear measures. Vuksani stressed that the National Food Authority has failed to list the appropriate measures and carry out the necessary checks to find the cause of the poisoning.
"The fact that the institution has failed to find the cause, please, to find the cause and to trust the public. The Albanian public has lost credibility in the institution and the prime minister himself has lost it, the EU ambassador has also lost it. Both of them, with their mouths, black and white, said: Mr. Prime Minister said that food safety at this level is non-negotiable and the responsible institution has done more harm than it has guaranteed safety. I listened very carefully at the conference to the EU ambassador who said: food safety is not a technical issue and is not done with papers, it takes action. We are professionals in the field, journalists, and we list all the things, while a national food authority that is considered the country's safety authority is not able to list all the measures that should have been taken and start doing that check. This is not it, this is not it, this is not to find the cause," said Vuksani.
