International Workers' Day has found some educators protesting to demand better wages and improved working conditions. With the banner "There is no quality education without well-paid teachers", the teachers marched from the National Museum in the direction of the Ministry of Education.

The Independent Education Union has chosen to protest on workers' day for the dissatisfaction of teachers while unanimously demanding a doubling of salaries with the argument that this profession should be chosen by graduates, as teaching branches are at risk.

"We need a doubling of salaries for the teaching profession to become a profession sought by graduates. In the branches of teaching, in Elbasan, Gjirokastër, Shkodër, Korçë, they are completely closed. The Departments of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology is a small number of students which is insufficient to replace the retiring teachers. The future of teachers leaves much to be desired", said a representative.

Educators demand an increase in the budget for education, saying that there cannot be good conditions without an increase in the budget.

"We have requested that the prime minister keep his promise that the budget for education will be 5% of GDP. This must be implemented as soon as possible, there cannot be infrastructure, there cannot be SMIP without training teachers, there cannot be laboratories without increasing the budget. If it is not 5% of GDP, there can be no salary increase. We want the teaching profession to be desired by young people. Without quality education, this country cannot have a future", said a representative of the Union.
