A man who paid another to pass his driving theory and practical tests has avoided an immediate jail sentence because they are full.
The decision taken in Great Britain has caused surprise, while the main character of this story is a 30-year-old Albanian.
BBC writes that E. Aliaj received the patent in August 2022 after someone else, on his behalf, did the tests. Aliaj pleaded guilty to three counts of fraud and was sentenced to 8 months in prison, but the sentence was suspended for 18 months.
"You deserve to go to prison," said Judge James House to the Albanian, but added further that he cannot do so as "His Majesty's prisons are full."
Aliajt's "Actor" took the theory test in July and the practice on August 1, 2022.
"The potential danger was to other road users from a man who did not pass the relevant tests," said Silas Lee, prosecutor.
When he was interrogated at first, Aliaj denied the accusations, and even stated that he was the only employee at home since his wife was pregnant and would give birth in two weeks. When he handed down the sentence, Judge House told the Albanian that his fraud posed a danger to others.
"Sending you to prison will cause you more trouble than it's worth, even though you deserve it," he told her.
In addition to the prison sentence, Aliaj has been ordered to perform 180 hours of unpaid work in the community.
