The murder of the Albanian Altin Aarapaj in Rafina, Greece three days ago by his compatriot after a momentary conflict, has three people arrested (friends of the victim), where two are suspected of aiding or hiding the serious crime.
But the course of the investigation may take a turn after the claims of the perpetrator's lawyer, after the questioning session of the suspect today (May 24). The prosecution has requested prison arrest for him.
Regarding the accusations of 46-year-old Mikel Selimaj, accused of the murder in Rafina, his lawyer spoke to the Hellenic media, saying that what his client claims is that while he went to disarm him, the gun was fired. According to him, the pistol belonged to the victim Arapi and they were staying together in an apartment, in "Glyka Nera", where he himself had also consumed narcotics.
Nikos Roussopoulos, the 46-year-old defendant's lawyer, spoke about the case, stating that:
"It is certain that they had known each other for years. They were friends. They had consumed a large amount of cocaine and therefore we asked for blood and urine tests to prove the consumption. The weapon belonged to the victim", informs the Greek media.
He further added:
"What my client claims is that, while he was going to disarm him, the gun fired, that's why the bullet went to his cheek. If someone is going to kill, they never shoot in the cheek, but in the head, up in the skull or in the chest. They quarreled, but my client doesn't remember what happened. They didn't have any disagreement about any house. It is a property about which the victim had a dispute with a Canadian. It has nothing to do with my client," Mr. Roussopoulos emphasized.
The victim was known to the authorities for drugs, as was the suspected perpetrator, who was remanded in custody by the court. It is recalled that the 41-year-old was found dead on Thursday (May 22) afternoon, in a vineyard in Rafina. The body bore at least one visible gunshot wound to the cheek, while no weapons were found at the scene.
Selimaj was arrested a day after the crime, together with his two friends, as they had an old social acquaintance with the 41-year-old victim, according to confessions. Arapaj called his wife after the serious injury, giving her the location and showing the name of the perpetrator also called "Keli".
His body was found after 20 hours of searching by the police and family members, after the suspects had moved him towards the vineyards of Rafina.
Altin Arapaj was found dead the day before in Rafina. According to the Greek media, 46-year-old Mikel Selimaj was caught in a house in Glyka Nera.
