An Albanian tried to hide £20,000 in cash as baguettes wrapped in aluminum foil. According to foreign media, Valentin Gjoni, 54, from Chessington in Greater London was in a car with two other people, stopped by Border Force officers in October 2020 traveling out of the UK through the Eurotunnel terminal in Folkestone.
He told officers they were traveling to Italy and then Albania and that there was no money in the vehicle, but after a search, they found more than £20,000 wrapped inside the baguette. Kent Police were notified and the money was seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act. A total of £40,440 was seized from John by Kent Police, and he was not convicted of any offence.
