Today, the Special Court rejected the request of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha to participate in the parliamentary plenary sessions.
For several months, Berisha has been under "house arrest" on charges brought by SPAK for abuse of office and corruption in the privatization of the former club Partizani in the area of Laprak, where his son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi, has built dozens of residential buildings.
At the end of the session, Berisha's lawyer, Genc Gjokutaj, said that SPAK refuses to look at the evidence and expertise presented by them.
"This noble decision decided to reject our request. Today, the violation of the Constitution of Albania was confirmed for the second time. These eyes that don't look and these ears that don't hear have violated the Constitution because Berisha is not an employee. This case is not mentioned at any point in the court decisions.
With its decision, this court distanced itself from the law and the Constitution. I want to report that we have made a set of tests and SPAK does not accept them. They don't even accept to read the expert report in private, even out of curiosity. Mr. Berisha is not absent from the assembly without a reason", Gjokutaj told the media.
