The protest held last evening by the Democratic Party in front of the Prime Minister's Office was accompanied by tensions and clashes with the police, leading to the arrest of 11 people and the detention of many others.

The number of people escorted has increased to 22, while the number of people arrested has increased to 11.

The rally, announced as a peaceful protest with speeches by opposition leaders, degenerated into moments of violence immediately after the speech of the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha (Read here). Molotov cocktails were thrown towards the Prime Minister's Office building, while there were physical clashes between protesters and law enforcement.

As a result of the incidents, several opposition representatives and protesters have been taken to hospital. Among them are former parliamentary candidate and journalist Aulon Kalaja, and MPs Luciano Boçi and Klevis Balliu, who have shown health problems. In addition, a police officer has suffered a head injury and burns.

At the end of the protest, Berisha warned of the continuation of rallies in the coming days, while accusing the police of violence, describing them as "professional criminals."

Meanwhile, the Minister of Interior, Besfort Lamellari, who reacted through a post on social media, wrote that he congratulated the police for their professional response, self-restraint and immediate neutralization of the Molotov cocktails, which, according to him, are being used as 'cannon fodder' to burn the city and endanger the lives of uniformed officers.
