Repatriation operation of Albanians from Syria, Ministry of Foreign Affairs: 5

Five Albanians, women and children, have been repatriated from Syria and arrived in Albania shortly after midnight on August 26. The repatriation was carried out as part of a coordinated operation between Albanian institutions, Albanian diplomatic and consular representations, as well as the authorities of the countries involved in the process.

Upon arrival in Tirana, the five repatriates will undergo health checks and psychosocial assessments, in accordance with the procedures foreseen for such cases. The authorities will then continue with the process of their accommodation, rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs announces that, on August 26, 2026, the operation for the voluntary repatriation from Syria of five Albanian citizens, including women and children, was completed. The operation is the culmination of long and careful work, which required continuous coordination between Albanian institutions, our diplomatic and consular representations, as well as the authorities of the countries involved.

The repatriation of Albanian citizens from conflict-affected areas is an expression of the state's responsibility to protect its citizens, even in difficult and complex circumstances. Their return to their homeland concludes an important phase of this process, but not the institutional responsibility towards them. Upon arrival in Albania, the repatriated citizens will be provided with the necessary assistance and health and psychosocial assessments will be carried out. The responsible institutions will continue to work in a coordinated manner for their accommodation, rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs thanks the Albanian institutions and structures engaged in this process, as well as the foreign authorities, especially the Syrian ones, who enabled the completion of the procedures and the safe transit of the citizens. The implementation of the operation proves the importance of inter-institutional cooperation and coordinated action in fulfilling the state's responsibilities towards its citizens.

The Inter-Institutional Task Force will continue its work both to fully monitor the rehabilitation and reintegration process, as well as to repatriate other Albanian citizens, whenever the necessary conditions are created for their safe return.
