"CURUM"

Albania has an obligation to receive the toxic waste that is being returned from Thailand, if it is proven that it came from KURUM in Elbasan.

It is about 800 tons of suspected toxic waste, for which international agencies have given an alert and the ships are returning to the Port of Durrës, where they started.

"The international authorities and the Basel network have been set in motion, after receiving a signal. Even OLAF itself, which has come to investigate, does not mean that it is unfounded. But, the results of the tests must be seen, from the load that will come. Even after the outbreak of the scandal, the authorities should not only speak when there is a scandal, but should be as transparent as possible, publish environmental impact reports, how much waste they deposit, etc. The law says that everything must be authorized by the Minister of Environment when the host country has accepted them. We were discovered with the cargo that remained stranded in China. Customs came out and said they are not our waste, but Kosovo's. The law prohibits the cross-border transit of hazardous waste. So even for those in China, the Albanian authorities are responsible. The port authority of Durrës is responsible. We hope that the risk is zero, but attention should be paid to hazardous waste. If it is proven that the waste belongs to Albania, we have the legal obligation to take it. If they are transit waste then they must be returned to the countries of origin. It may be that it is suspected that we may have been part of an international traffic", said the journalist in the show "The Unexposed".

We recall that a few weeks ago, for an amount of 800 tons of hazardous waste that had illegally left Albania and headed for South Africa.

Two ships of the shipping company "MAERSK" turned off their GPS after the alarm was given all over the world.

There were 100 containers of toxic dust that collects from steel furnace filters, which have been illegally shipped to Thailand, and the alarm was only raised when the two ships were on their way.

After days of searching, the two ships were located and the cargo is being returned.

But after our first report, a new scandal came to light. It turns out that a month ago an even bigger load of chemical powder was sent to China.

In March of this year, 115 containers with toxic waste were sent to China from the Port of Durrës.

The cargo, which was declared to be zinc concentrate and ore, has been blocked by Chinese authorities and currently the 115 containers are being held at Nansha Port in Guangzhou, China.

The company "Sokolaj LLC" turns out to be the company licensed for the transport of these wastes and has undertaken to load them into the containers of MAERSK ships.
